Oshima Tsumugi in tea ceremonies
and coming-of-age ceremonies
We
hope to hand our traditions on to future generations.
In the Amami Islands, Oshima Tsumugi is often worn at
tea ceremonies, thus combining the traditions of the tea
ceremony and of Oshima Tsumugi.
At
coming-of-age ceremonies in the Amami Islands, many young
people wear Oshima Tsumugi Kimono which had formerly been
worn by their mothers and grand-mothers. Oshima Tsumugi
thus plays a role in extending the continuity of family
history and local customs from one generation to another.
